Is there somebody on here named Eric Bewley? I heard that he did a SAS on a Grand Vitara. I would like to start collection parts in the Fall and Winter and do the same to mine (1999 GV)in the Spring. I have a friend that works at ICBC (Insurance Corporation British Columbia) in Canada. My friend has access to the database of donar cars in all the wreckers in BC so I would have no problem finding parts. I am particularily interested in what axel he used and what steering box because I heard that neither the IFS Toyota or sidekick would work because the frame is up higher. Any helpful info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Eric would be the forum administrator. As far as I know he doesn't have a GV, let alone a SAS. There was someone on this forum by the name of Snoopy (or similar) with a SASed GV. I think he used a Dana 30 up front. Hope this get's you started ;)
Let us know what you find out!

Hello OCB,
I have a SAS Sidekick and a 'regular GV' (new project vehicle!) there was a guy from Mexico, I think, that was running a late model Vitara (2-door) with a Dana 30 front end. For what it's worth no matter what pieces you decide on there is going to be a considerable amount of fabrication work to fit it all properly. Several things to consider...

Hi,
It’s been a long time since my last visit and post, Sorry sometimes I really work, though!
Any questions I will be more than glad to help, Indeed I cutter off the Shiite IFS and welded on a tiny D30. It works fine and flex better, it just enough to handle 33 and using stock components, w/ 4.24:1 TC at the end the engine 2.0 and automatic transmission are not really any monster so for now its OK. Couple of u-joints and that’s it.
For the steering I use an Old jeep wagoneer steering box bolted to the chassis and replace the small tiny pump by using a bigger heavy duty truck pump, then I ported the box and add a hydraulic assistance piston, works smooth with the ARB on 33.
See you.
