Title: Newbie - Diesel Conversion Question
Post by: lacrosse10604 on October 15, 2005, 04:20:32 PM
Hey everyone. I just joined up. Great site.

Here's my question: I'm looking at buying a Sidekick/tracker and converting it to diesel. Does anyone know if the VW TDI is easily swaped in? I saw Acme Adapters has kits but I didn't see anything on the TDI engine. Any thoughtss? Anyone done this?

Dave

Howdy, ksa421 on here just put in a turbo 1.6 in his tracker(acme did it.), just a one wire hook up, I think the one your talking about has more wiring to it but it can be done, give acme a call.

Actually the guys at Acme already wrote me back about it, few hour response.  They said the TDI is alot trickier but do able. The electrical work is alot harder. So I think I'm going to do 1.9 Diesel w/o turbo. New they're running around $4500, lower if you get them used.

Thanks

if you are looking at the 1.9 non turbo then go with a 1.6 turbo. More available and way easier to get more power from.

I have the 1.6l Turbo in mine and I really like it. Another advantage of going with a non TDI motor is you can basically run these motor underwater...You dont have to really worry about frying your computer or wiring harness.. Also if you roll your rig you have to hurry up and shut the motor off.. becuase it will just keep on a running ;)
