Title: question from a total newbie
Post by: rkteckt on March 18, 2005, 01:20:57 PM: My engine block is muddy.......and probably will keep getting muddy, but i'd like to stay on top of it and clean it off.

I dont know much about engines but it seems like i shouldnt get the distributor wet.

Does anyone else bother cleaning the mud off their engine and how do you go about it?

Yeah, if you get the distributor too wet it might not start right up, and you might have to pop the cap and dry it out, but it won't hurt it.

I used to wrap the distributor with a plastic bag, back in the days of breaker points, but that was never too effective. These days, they don't seem to be affected as much by water as they used to be.

Engine Gunk is a good cleaner Ã‚Â for the grease/oil mess.
If its just muddy, just hose it off.
Careful of the electronics/Did cap and other stuff.
If you have an Aircompressor at home it will probley be a good Idea to blow off the standing water.

Great Idea. I've scrubbed mine down and my Gfs car. Dang Auto Dealers Oil up the engines to make them look shinie & new, then all the dirt sticks to em.

as for water in the disty, i cover mine up with a few plastic bags and duck tape. i have only has water in it once and it was quickly fixed.

Try Lemon Pledge. It gives a decent shine and repels dust and dirt. It's cheap too. ;)
