hi im new to the forum and im looking for some help with my 88.5 sami i bought it about 5 months ago as a first vehical and am building it as a trail rig but i also have to drive it back and forth to school every day so i have some questions to get it finished up before i get my licence
ok along with my sami i picked up 2 other 87 samurais and a 91 geo tracker for parts so i was woundering if i can take the EFI system out of the tracker and put it into my samurai my samurai is 1.3l and the tracker is a 8v 1.6l i dont want to take off my carborator if it wont work? another question i have is will the seats fit from a tracker without having to go to far in fabbing up brackets im sure i will have more questions along the line and i appreciate the help oh here is a list of what ive done to my sami so far
i lifted it with a spoa with higher perches so it has about 8 inches of lift
tires i went with 32x13x15 firestone mud terrains on a 15x9 rock crawler wheel
did the door mod so i can take them on and off with no problem and am in the prosses of making some half doors from the other samurai
my spider gears are welded up front and rear which i am most likely going to take out because it will be on the road as of now the gearing is out of an auto sideick but if i take the lockers out they will be back to stock samurai gearing
im making custom bumpers out of 2x4 steel box and a 3500lb atv winch
i also plan on making a roll cage in the rear of the bed
umm any info you have picked up will be highly appreciated because im new to the zook world and am eager to learn thanks

how about some pictures.
You will want gearing in your axles of at least 4.62 unless you are going with a 4.1 transfer case.
I would swap the whole engine out of the tracker into the sammy.
unless of course the engine is shot.

I drive mine every day to work I'm running SPOA. 1 inch lift shackles and 4.62 gears in the axles.
the 1.3 still struggles to get my 32's up to freeway speeds.
I would also recomend power steering which I really need to get into my garage and finish.
also dodge neon seats almost bolt right in to the sammies. but that is up to you since you have the tracker.
Use the search funtion it provides great knowledge.
anyway hope that helps a little.

i would like to use the tracker engine but there is a hole in the block and i dont know if the 1.3l sami block is compatible with the 1.6l if so id love to do the swap i am also thinking of taking the power stearing from the tracker but id like to here if it will work before i dig into it as for pics ill see what i can do its not finished yet so it doesnt look to purdy the paint isnt on but the body work is done and its just about ready to paint i just got my spray in bed liner in tonight hope it will hold up ok but i dont plan on carrying much in back so im not to worried about it

Yep, the neon seats fit with a bit of modification. The only thing to check on is that they come out of a 2dr. The seats I used were from a 4 door and they wont flip foreward to get into the back seat. But overall that is ok since I will soon be removing the back seat for good and installing a shiny new Jeepbox for lockable storage.

I believe you can put a 1.6 head on a 1.3 block... Can anyone confirm that???
I KNOW you can put a 1.3 Head on a 1.6 block 'cause I have that in my Samurai. The only problem might be the valves may not clear the pistons with a 1.6 head on a 1.3 block...
If you could put a 1.6 head on a 1.3, you can definitely take advantage of the EFI which is a billion times better than that Hitachi POS carb! You'll need to figure out how to adapt the engine part of the donor's wiring harness. There are folks who can build you a harness for a price... or you can dig up the wiring diagram and do it yourself....
To that end, might I suggest a visit to

?
Lots of stuff there that might help you.
Oh, and unfortunately, simple fabbing is required to get those tracker seats into your Samurai.

buy the power steering kit from calmini it is bolt on and comes with the adapter to bolt your steering shaft up.
THIS IS IMPORTANT!!!!
My zuki sits with all the power steering stuff in it but no shaft because the sky kit does not come with the adapter (you can not buy this piece separate from anyone) and in the heat of the moment I messed up the side kick shaft so I have to find another one and a sammy shaft to mate it too or just a new side kick shaft.

is it the same thing as the one on a tracker? because i already have the one from the tracker

Not sure about the 1.6 head on the 1.3, the compression might be too low. I seem to remember that someone did it in the past, maybe they skimmed the head. The advantage is that the valves are bigger. It is possible to fit just the 1.6TBI manifold on the 1.3, that would be the easiest method. For a full install you will need the vehicle speed sensor fitted to your speedo (I think trail tough do this) and an injection pump and all the other bits and pieces. It is well worth getting the Factory Service Manual - lots of information. You could also have a look at my EFI site, its a continual work in progress but there is a fair bit of info on the Suzuki TBI system and its sensors.

so you dont suggest taking the whole motor does anyne know if the seats will fit?
-
Personally I'd take the whole lot. I think the 1.3 block is a bit shorter so you can't interchange the bits. I've never tried it but I'm sure someone will know. Even if you end up throwing most of it away it will be worth it for all the odd bits and pieces, nuts and bolts and stuff.

If you are going to use the shaft from the tracker you will need to find a way to extend it so that it is longer ie cutting it in half and welding in a piece.
like I said just get the kit from calmini.
Then you can send me your shaft so I can fix my steering and be able to drive again.
Just kidding (ok not really I do need a new steering shaft)
