Title: having my tracker painted, a few questions...
Post by: Festiva on October 19, 2005, 07:38:37 AM
Hi guys, im having a local maaco paint my tracker, ( i know i know maaco, but this paticular one does good work!,)

im just going for a striahgt white paint job, thats the original color and its hard to mess up..

about taping off,.. what about the top? do i bring the tracker in to them with the top off and have them plastic and tape off the interior?  or keep the top on?

I just want them to shoot up too the weather stripping so it dosent look like dog balls if they just taped off the top and shot it..

 Thanks for your help!

If your gona get your zuk repainted, make sure its done right. Its really gona piss you off if there are some spots here and there that arnt painted, you should get them to remove everything so the job gets done right. ;)     Oh, how many layers of base and clear are they putting on?

Festiva, you are asking a bunch of cool questions.  It sounds like you are one your way to having a kick ass ride.  Make sure to take pictures of the build-up.  Good luck

BFM thanks!, its going to be a cool truck. i had $2600 total for the whole project, i found a decent basketcase tracker for $700, since everything else out there is either an automatic or over 3 grand to start with, so with this tracker i found i'll be in it for 2600 and do all the stuff i want to do to it, including rebuilding the whole interier, paint and super swampers, ill have pics soon of the track with the new old stock kayline K2 Top.

Convertibles are easier to paint.  Take the entire roof and all of the rubbers, mounts and brackets associated with it off.  They'll paper and tape out all of the "blanks" and spray just the exterior.  I've painted these before, and it was simple cause the panels aren't very large, especially when there's no roof to have to paint.

I'd take all of the trim off from around the doors and all that, cause the worst thing about the cheaper paint jobs (which still get the job done just fine IMO), is that they always get paint on the black rubber trims where it's so obvious.  If only the windshield would come out so you could take that seal out also.

It is very hard to mess up white paint though.

One more thing, make sure it's not gunna rain on the way there....

x2  man the more you take off the better.. that just means they can't screw it up.. for sure the moldings and marker lights... just remember  you get what you pay for at macco.. but they can do nice work.. if you pay for it....
