Title: Homemade rims.......????
Post by: LawDog on March 17, 2005, 10:54:14 AM
I think this guy welded up rims so he could use his farm tractor tires on his Zuk.  Wonder how that thing goes down the road 8)

I have a few of these in my barn out back and they don't look that good in person.  all the sholder lugs are the same size so i don't think they would work well.  also i wonder how heavy those beasts are???

Those are bobcat tires off of a skid-steer mini loader.... They come in the 15" size, so he didn't have to make custom rims at all.

They are Denman Skidsteer 12-16.5 tires mounted on 16.5" rims.  Two of the rims are different than the other two.  There is a 2.5" offset difference in the two sets of wheels.  The center of the 16.5" wheels have had the centers cut out and I welded in centers for a 5 on 5.5" bolt pattern.  The centers are welded on both sides of the wheel.  They are very strong.  These tires were used on a Suzuki Samurai for the past year.   The actual measurements on the tires are 31"x11" The tires are in really good shape.  I've decided that I want larger tires for my Samurai.  These wheels will work good on Jeeps (CJs), Ford 1/2 tons, some Dodges, and Samurais.

That'd mean only the bolt pattern has been welded into the original rim's ;D

yeah, that's what I meant.  He must have cut the middle of the loader wheels out and welded in something with a sammi bolt pattern.  Pretty neat waste of time if I do say so myself.

I've seen quite a few rims with the centres cut out and replaced with others to alter the PCD. It was an old trick to fit 15" VW Beetle rims to old Ford 17" centres. Usually they were quite tidily done and you wouldn't really be able to tell. Cetainly not like those, they just look really scary.
