Title: some advice/opinions
Post by: 94track on October 25, 2005, 11:06:03 AM
well I just looked/test drove a stock 88 sammi.  The problems that I noticed are: needs new top(no rips or tear, just velcro worn out), x-fer case mounts are shot ( rubber unbonded from metal), and the only"big" thing, at cold start up it idles like shit, stays running but doesnt idle good, but once it is warmed up it idles fine, any idea what that can be.  The asking price is 950.00, what do you guys think.  Body and tires in great shape btw.  Thanks

Bring the guy $500 cash and tell him you'll take it.  You'll have to spend $400 minimum for all those little bits straight away for it to have nothing really wrong with it.

Tell him it's a 17 year old vehicle too, that should talk him down.

Since the body is good everything else is easily replaceable, I'd go for it.

I think that it would be worth it, but then again, I'm driving an 88 that was stock up until 3 months ago.  The engine on mine has only 75k on it, but the carb is always the weak link on it.   Rag tops are cheap, thats no prob.  My 88 runs poorly until it warms up, its the stupid wax pellet on the choke, I just don't have the patience to fix it right now.  I live about a mile from the freeway and by the time I hit it in the morning, it runs pretty good the rest of the day.

Offer 500 and take it for 750 when he says no.
or give me his number and I'll call about it :) since I only have one and could use about 15 more (just kidding well about his number I really do want about 15 more samurai's)
as long as it starts and drives should be good to go.
just take the top to a top shop and have them replace the velcro shouldn't cost too much.
buy a mighty kong transfer case holder
and rebuild the carb and should be good as new.

why can't I find one for so cheap around here :(

flip the dash light switch on and tell him there's probably something wrong witht the motor....lol
Honestly, I'd say it would be a good deal.

The west coast always had better weather for convertible's.  There's a crap load up here in the NW simply because they fit the trails and lifestyles of everyone better.

You ever seen a sami for sale in Minnesota?
