Title: doin a clutch any tricks/hints?

I am doing the clutch in the 4 door this weekend. Any hints? I have done lots of clutches in other vehicles but every one has their own little quirks. Do I need to drop the exhaust or will the tranny clear?

Welllllll...

It's easier to drop your transfer case, and then drop your transmission.

But it's impossible!  Well, it is, unless you've prepared for it.

First time, you have to drop them as a pair.  Once you have, remove the upper shifter housing from the transmission, and separate the transfer case from the transmission.  The TOP BOLT is UNDER the shifter housing.  DO NOT PUT THIS BOLT BACK IN, when you put them back together!  Throw it out!  Then, NEXT time you have to do it, you WILL be able to drop the transfer case first, and then the transmission.

Here's a question i've never asked before..

In separating the t-case from the tranny in a kick, what seals/gaskets (if any) are in between the 2?

It is just splined shafts?

Just splined shafts.  You can separate them without shedding any fluids.

I have a tranny adapter for my floor jack so I will prob pull them together. I bought it when I had a full size as a NP205 and a SM465 are kinda heavy!  ;D

I tried my transmission adapter on mine.  In the end, I just sucked it up, and caught it.

I removed the cross member, then put the t-case mount onto the jack's round plate and it held it up pretty well, with another hand on the tranny, then had someone lower the jack to the ground and it was out.

I dropped the top, and put a 2x4 over the windshield and over the wing. Then used rachet straps to loer the tranny down. Easy.  ;D Same for putting it back it. Just tighten em up to get it to where it needs to just slid in. I went through the hole for the shifter, then over the frame rails from under the tracker for the other one.

Edit: OOps yours is a 4dr....um......? Wing it I guess!  :P
