Title: Loud rubbing noise when reversing
Post by: roeman on March 15, 2005, 05:56:36 AM
Hi, i have a 1994 samurai,

It has just started to make loud rubbing noises, like metal on metal when reversing, it seems to be coming from the back end somewhere,

anyone have any ideas of what it could be?

Cheers roeman ;D

Could be your brakes. I've seen brake hardware snap and nothing would happen while going forward but in reverse it sounded awful.

i agree with TN here, i had a similar prob on a toy with rear drums though im sorry i cant remember 100% what it was, that was 20yrs ago.  jack up the rear and put stands under the axels and try rotating by hand forward and back, should help norrow down what side it is too.

Maybe there's a dead animal trapped under your vehicle.  Maybe his little tail is pointed in such a way as it only rubs when the vehicle is in reverse.
