Title: leak from under dash
Post by: nutergav on November 20, 2005, 09:49:13 PM
Hey all.

I have a water leak coming in from somewhere under the dash on both the passenger side and the drivers side.  I can't seem to locate it.  It only happens when its raining so its not anything leaking from the car.  Also, i find it leaks much more on the passengers side that the other.  It comes out more when we go around corners but it still comes through when it is stationary.  Any ideas???

Cheers, Gavin

Replace the seal on the lower edge of the windshield.  That's gunna be the problem no doubt.

cool.  thanks man.
I think that the window was just recently put in though.  I'll have to get whoever put it in to have a look at it again.

nutergav,

crikeymike is not talking about the windshield seal itself.  Between the window frame and the body tub there is a seal.  They will fail after a while.

I'm having the exact same problem with mine (87 Samurai soft top).  I'm getting ready to take the windshield frame off this weekend.

Will weatherstripping from home depot work or will I need something special?

you can do a double layer of weatherstripping, just can't put in too much cause when you go to close it up, then you can stress the whole frame out from pushing/pulling it too hard.
