Title: 180 Stat/ mpg
Post by: maybe2fast on November 21, 2005, 12:55:11 PM
1990 Tracker
1.6 8v
5 speed, 4x4

I put in a 180 stat and an electric fan, I wired the fan to run all the time (ignition hot), the temp guage never really goes past 1/4 of the temp gauge. will this hurt the MPG? I do get fine heat.

What do you think?  running the alternator does not come free.

Get the little thermo switch that
comes on at 180, you can put it
right on the water outlet and switch
the only when the engine gets over
180, or you can harpoon it through
the radiator fins and it will come on
when the radiator gets too hot, in my
oppinion this is too late, but might work
well in cooler climates, here I'd rather
have the radiator cooling before the
engine needs it

I replaced my sender with a cheapy
from some where, it read low after that.

These senders are in a vulnerable spot,
easy to break off the spade terminal, so
I bet you got a new one too, I broke mine
off trying to tighten it up, the terminal was
loose and rotating on the pin, making the
guage read wierd and all over.

Brand New temp guage read straight up
middle, never moved from there once warmed up
