I just changed the belts on my Suzuki Sport, because the screeching sound was beginning to get on my (and probably my neighbours) nerves a bit.
I was careful, and the belts went on easily, but now my car sounds like a hairdryer. The fan probably wasn't working too well before due to an old, loose belt, but now, it really seems to be the only thing pulling the car along.
I refuse to beleive that this is normal.
Where did I go wrong?
There is around 1/4 inch deflection possible in the fan belt.
The noise is definately comming from the fan.
If this carries on, I will be the laughing stock of the street....the neighbours already think the car a joke (tells you all you need to know, really)

Sounds like the fan clutch might be frozen,
better than a fan clutch that doesn't work,
unless of coarse it's coming apart and is
going to eat your radiator

thanks wild.....
fan clutch......
time to hit the manuals.....
or just buy a new one ;)
oh... and move! 8)

You must have bumped the timing cover while changing the belts because it soulds like the fan belt, pulley, or timing components are rubbing on the timing cover. Easy to fix.

;Dfixed ;D
took the fan clutch off......locked solid. (checked the belt-timing cover clearance too, all OK, but worth a look). "New" clutch 32 bucks from breaker (looks brand new, but came from a '96) bingo...... sounds great....now I just need to sort out the neighbourhood issue....
BTW, check out rock auto for parts.....pretty good value at the moment.
