Title: 8v v 16 v performance
Post by: cj on November 24, 2005, 04:37:14 PM
I just put some stock size tires back on my lwb 16v efi 4spd auto so it has the same gearing and tire size as my swb 8v carby 5spd manual. The swb is completely stock and in good tune while the lwb has tri-y headers, 2" press bent exhaust with a small straight thru muffler, a larger offset turbo muffler and a larger dia. hi-flow cat along with a reground cam and the cam timing advanced 6 degrees along with a Safari snorkel and stock air filter. The lwb 16v auto walks all over the swb 8v manual to such a large degree even though it is a heavier vehicle and autos are not normally picked for their performance attributes. The 8v seems to plod through the rev range while the 16v seems to scream by comparison. The performance difference is such that even with the 31's on the 16v I reckon it is still noticably quicker. Just thought some may be interested to know how the performance difference felt. I have to drive the lwb with a lighter foot around corners 'cause if I power on it keeps breaking free.  ;D

Hey CJ haven't caught up with you in a while....

Great report on how your mods have affected things.......

I will be starting a major build on a 16 valve this spring I'll keep you posted on how things go.

I like my 16 valve in my sammie, I think they lie on the 95 horse power thing, mine has alot more than 95 h.p.  ;D

8V = 80bhp
16V = 95bhp

16V has 18.75% more power stock. Yours is tuned so it should be a LOT more powerful.
