I don't know but I do recall a thread a while back with that info in it. Try a search back over the last 6 months.

There is an article (or two) on the subject at Acks FAQ (http://www.ackerdackerly.com/acksFAQ.html) based on that thread. Click on "View Forums" then do a search for timing.
There is no mention of "I" and "E" though (I don't recall seeing those marks the last time I was doing a timing belt change) -- just the arrow stamped on the cam pulley pointing up.
I CAN tell you that if there is no arrow on the face of the cam pulley (somewhat hard to believe...), the cam pulley should be set so that the intake and exhaust valves on Cylinder #1 are closed indicating an igniition stroke. The exhaust valve should be closing on #4 at this point indicating the top of the exhaust stroke. Some sort of mark on the face of the pulley should be aligning with the notch stamped into the dust cover behind the pulley.
Unfortunately, you'll need to take the valve cover off in order to see all this.
I hope this helps!

Mark on the cam should point down
to fire #1, otherwise time mark up to
Cyl #4, otherwise you will be 180* out
on the ignition

so if he's out he could pull the dist turn the crank one revolution put the dist back in and go with out pulling the belt off. ;D

ya thats great but the problem remains where should i set it to the "I" or "R" there two diffrent settings when i took it apart but i marked it and the "R" seems to be where it was but i want to be sure dont want to put it in the zuki and find out later i gotta change it to the other setting because the cam positioning is diffrent on the ''I" and the "R" where the cam is and the valves open diffrently i checked it out last night maby im overlooking the whole thing maby it dosent really matter but i figure that you guys are the experts thats why im asking
thanks

From the previous thread:
mrfuelish, There are 2 marks "I" and "E". "E" being the one that is standard. On closer inspection it looks like it may be slightly retarded. I was guessing that it had something to do with other markets having better or worse grade fuels.

While I might debate to some extent about whether the cam mark should be pointing up or down (I have had success specifically with a 1.6 16-valve MFI engine -- the one with four injecters -- setting the cam and crank pulleys with the marks pointing up) I am at a loss about the "E" or "I" marks. Perhaps you have a 1.6 that is newer than 1995 unit and the markings are different? If you do have a factory cam pulley (at least 1993 or older), there is an dot or arrow stamped into the face of it. The "up" and "up" alignment should look like this:
(from Chilton's Total Car Care '93 Sidekick CD available through Ack's FAQ)
Right-click and "save as" the picture to your PC to see more detail. Pictured is a cast or forged pulley. Some engines have a stamped steel pulley similar to the older 1.3 engines.
This is the same setup as published in the Chilton Suzuki Samurai/Sidekick Geo Tracker manual and the Haynes manual (which is much more useful as campfire kindling...)
If you have an aftermarket pulley, use the method described in my post (above) to find the Top Dead Center (TDC) position for cylinder 1 on the camshaft which would be equivalant to "dot or arrow up".
Hope this helps!
