Title: Brake caliper Question?
Post by: prairie_dog on November 27, 2005, 01:27:23 PM
My driver side caliper is pretty much seized, I phoned to get new ones ( might as well change both ::))

Anyways my truck is an 85 and most parts places only list from 86 and up (in Canada) so I have to special order them, is the 85 and 86 caliper the same? I have found little differences between the 85/86 models, is this one of them?

Is there no difference from left to right?

Many questions from

Steve...

Left and right are different.

E-mail me the month and year of production, should be on the drivers side of the ether
the door jam or the dash (vertical face left side) and your VIN.

Hollander interchange calls 85 by itself but there are serial number and production date
splits as well.

I tried the 87 caliper and it will bolt up + the rotor looks the same size. The rotors from the 87 are totally shot so I'm gonna mix and match parts to see if it'll work.

 Anybody got a link to show the differences ( why an 85 is a SJ413 & a samurai )
In Alberta you can find lots of old SJ's and even some of the old 2cyl ones, samurai's are easy to find, ordering parts is a real nightmare ??? sometimes I say 86 sami, sometimes I say 84 sj410 now with the swap I say 92 sidekick ( I like that one though ;D)

Just my little wine sestion, anybody got some cheese ;)

I always use this site to check part #s http://www.altrom.com/cadDefault.aspx .  This is where my parts store usually ends up ordering from anyways.  This site does not show a caliper part # for the 1985.  It does show the same rotor number for everything from the SJ410s through all the samurai years.  As for pad numbers the SJ410s and SJ413s share the same number but the samurais have a different number.  If it was me I would start by comparing the 1985 pads to Samurai ones and see what the differences are.
