Title: SON OF A...anyone found non-stock rims that will fit Grand Vitaras?
Post by: AJMBLAZER on December 04, 2005, 12:14:52 PM
So the 16x7 Cragar Soft 8 black steelies don't fit.  Just don't clear the calipers.  Wonderful, hopefully I can return them to Summit for some of my money. >:(

So has anyone actually found aftermarket rims that will fit Grand Vitaras?  The wife doesn't like the stock rims' aluminum color so she wants different rims.  Maybe get them powdercoated...

I need rims that won't hit the calipers and I won't use spacers.  I don't want to run 2" of backspacing because I want to keep the tires under the fenders like the stockers.

Wow, 16's wouldn't even fit?  I've heard that it's hard to find 15's that fit (like the stock rims on a tracker) but I didn't realize that some 16's wouldn't fit either.   I'm pretty sure I have heard of different rims that people have used, but I can't remember what they were.  Good luck.

Thats due to GV having 12.5" rotors u need to get wheels that have a big arche to clear the caliper or get wheel spacers

I think we're just going to paint the stock rims.  There's paint to do that now a days and I hear good things about it.

I don't like spacers or low backspacing rims and want to keep the tires under the truck.  So I guess this is my option aside from searching forever.

That's my plan. Going to go with a gunmetal grey.

Duplicolor has a nice dark grey that is sort of a metallic gunmetal in their wheel paint line.  Sounds what you want.  Unless I can find a black paint that'll likely be what we use.

Hey guys,
I've seen custom back spacing wheels for sale at Rocky Road, they have 2" back spacing, this should help with the caliper clearence AND widen the stance some. I have also seen Bassett racing wheels in the US with 1" and 2" back spacing for their truck wheels. I am going with the Bassett 2" back spacing when I install my TSL LTB's on my '01 Tracker soon. I'm going to order one for test fit and will post pics.

Lots of big wheels fit the Tracker/GV.  For instance, Dodge Ramcharger wheels, Kia Sportage wheels, Ford 4x4, etc. all have the same hub.  But I'm not sure about brake clearance on  the 12" discs.

The main problem is the actual hub is soo far in and the caliper is so far out u need the 1" wheel spacers.

Have you actually tried this on a GV?  As JDMCRX said it's not that easy.  The calipers' size precludes any standard backspacing wheel or 15" wheel.  Trackers/Kick/X90/Samurai/Jeep/Ramcharger/Dodge Ram/etc wheels won't work on a GV due to this.  You need to use OEM GV or XL7 wheels...but there are a few aftermarket wheels available.  However they're all pretty bling bling and $$$ for my tastes.
