Title: Base Timing?
Post by: prairie_dog on December 05, 2005, 05:04:39 PM
Does anyone know what wires your suppose to jump on the diagnostic plug to set the base timing?????? ( colors )

It's only three wires ones ground (black) ones 10.5 volts "running"/ 6 volts "on" (violet) and the other is 12 volts "on" and "running" (blue with yellow stripe)

My book doesn't say to set with or without the vacum plugged or not?

Signed "MECHANICLY DANGEROUS"

mine is a 16 valve 1994 with a four pin, looking at the plug with the tab up, top left is a(violet) top right is b(blu\yel) lower left c or (black) lower right (blu\red or yel|blu)  a is probly duty cycle,c to d should be ecm code, c to d should be timming, you could plug vac line if you want to.

It's an 91 1.6L/8v with the 3 pin, the problem is that all the harness is from an 89 including the ECM.

The 91 had the electronic distributor and the 89 had vacum dist, I now realize I have to change the intake or tap a new hole for the "restrictor thing" as the 91 intake doesn't have a spot for this.

It's advancing the timing way to far as the RPM's go up (baby deisel/it's a bad thing)

Note to self: don't mix and match parts when you don't know what yor mixing and matching ;)

ya you need venturi vac not manifold vac. if you have a good timing light you should have between 32 and 36 deg. total advance.

I think you could use the electronic dizzy instead and let the ecm do the advancin'.

I don't have any of the harness for the 91 and don't know if it would mate to the 89 ECM?

The venturi vac is the "restrictor thingy" I mentioned earlier? I'm going to get a new one tonight and tap the new hole for it ( easier that swapping the intakes over) hopefully this will fix the problem ??? ???
