So I know i've seen this idea somewhere, but i've looked in 4 different forums with no luck.
I have to mount the control box for my winch under the hood because of interference with headlights and driving lights on the bull bar.
So the only problem with that, is that the f'n plug for the remote is then under the hood, plus in the location where i will be mounting the box (next to the battery, basically over the strut tower), makes it too tall when you plug in the remote so the plug hits the hood if you try to lower it while it's connected. So that won't work.
So what i thought i had seen before was to lengthen the wires that go from the soleoids up an inch to the female plug that's in the plastic housing. So then you could drill out the rivets holding in that plug, and move it up to the grille, or somewhere much easier to access.
Am i wrong, or can i do this as easily as it seems? Just cut the wires, drill out the rivets, then mount the plug in wherever it fits best, like in the grille in front of the winch.
P.S. It's a Warn M8000 control box, like the standard type. Also if someone has figured a way to mount the whole box under there while using the standard plug in, let me know.

That cord controls the selonoids in the box,
just run some leads into the cab and put a
switch on the dash, then you can be in the
trucklet when you winch

I had my Ramsey set up on the lwb with the box by the strut tower and the remote zip-tied to the grille and a seperate switch on the dash too.

CJ, you mean you did like i said and removed the plug from the solenoid box and zip tied it to the grille? Or you just ran the remote wire to the front?
Got any pics of that engine bay you're talking about.
Why the hell is the plug on the remote lead 2.5" long anyway. If it were only 1" long then i wouldn't have any hood clearance problems...

I have mine right where yours is but I moved it a little closer to the engine so there is more room. When I need to winch I just pop the hood, plug it in and toss it in the passenger door and I'm good to go

Yep, and sorry no pics and don't have the bar on the swb yet to mount the winch to so can't help there at the moment.

By the way having an in-cab switch does not suit all winching situations.... ;D

I got confirmation from a guy here at work that it's fine to splice into the plug connection to make the plug fit somewhere else, so i'll be working on that this week, then i'll post some pics of the finished product (as long as it looks good).

Mine under the hood, I still have to wire an in cab switch as the remotes a PITA unless your trucklets like CJ's and sleeps on its side ;D

Mines RHD but I doubt that makes too much difference.

So how does the bracket look? Does it come from the strut side, or straight up? The way you have mounted yours was an idea i came up with last night. Even though yours is RHD, the engine and everything is in the same position as my 16V LHD is, even the washer bottle. I thought there were more differences than that.

I have made a bracket to lower the charcoal canister to put it back to where it was before the 3" body lift then I've got a piece of flat coming up off that with a semi round section welded across to mount the controller on.
I don't have my camera at the moment otherwise I'd take a few pix for you.
