hey guys,
after just a few weeks of owning my 92 Chev Tracker 1.6 8V while driving it just went up and died on me. The engine cranks but doesn't start up.
Just a couple weeks prior of me buying it the previous owner changed the fuel pump (brand new unit) and changed the ECM for a used one (out of scrapyard). For her too it just die on her. The fuel pump didn;t do anything but the changed ECM did. And i'm almost sure its the ECM again.
What are the chances that two ECM die within weeks on eachother? I know that the 90-94 are plagued with these problems.
Do you guys just change the ECM's or rebuild them? Anywhere i can get refurbed ECM's?
I also found this on EBay and wondering if it really works. It seems like some kind on ECM by-pass

Go to the Zuwharrie.com forum and look for a guy named Surly. He fixes ECM's.
I can't say if this is your problem for sure but he'd be the man to talk to.

sounds like a ecm, it went on mien and did the same, i got a re built one, apparently they are better then they were stock

hey guys
towed the tracker to my mechanic. He said the spark was very weak. And that there was a shit load of spark on the wire from coil to distributer. He dried it and it started first shot.
Can this cause the truck just to die while driving? It seems a little odd, but i guess if very little or no spark is going from coil than it makes sense?
I'm obviously gonna change the wires and won't be takin it on long rides, just to be sure :-\

Personally, I'd be going after the rotor, and the distributor cap too.

And don't get a cheap cap or rotor, get a oem type with a vent if you can.

Thanks guys :)
