				would a 4:1 t-case be to low geared for 31x 12.50 boggers ? I have an 87 sammy ?

				2 points:

 1) there is no such thing as too low! ;D

 2) I've been running 4.16 t-case gears and 31" swamper thornturds whithout a problem.  If anything, I wish I went lower to the 4.9 gears from trailtough.  technically the 4.16 gears are about right for 30" tires in high range but 31's seem to be fine....having a 16valve 1.6 helps.

Go as low as you can afford $, you will always want to be lower.  IMO , 4:1  is not nearly low enough especially on long steep hills.  THe new chassis I am currently building will have 8-1 t-case, 5:38 gears and another t-case to reduce almost another 2-1.

my first rig had 31's and a 4 to 1   x-fer case and I was allways smelling clutch when wheeling it hard even with a dual friction clutch, I just ordered a 6.4 to 1 set, I would of gone lower but I don't think that the stock case would hold up to much more and did not want to spend 600.00 big ones for a billit case.

				Hi Midzuki,

4.16 gears are Ok if you are only playing in the mud and have a good strong running motor.
5.14 gears are a real good allrounder for mud a bit of rock crawling and general off camber / go slowish situations - you can use all 5 gears in your tranny to get a gear that works.
6:1 and lower are really only suitable for hard core rock crawling and the likes ( not what all of us are into ;) ) - but way too low to get your rubber spinning in the mud.

NOTE: These are my experiences in various rigs. All these rigs where fitted with 3.9 ring and pinions ( standard )  :D.

 I hope this helps.

				Oh yeah - all running 31's :)

Hey zeus,   sorry could not resist,   have you ever been snow wheeling or following a large group, I don't think that 8 to 1's would be to low, and also with the 6 to 1's it lowers your high range also so if you want to spin tires put it in high range.

				Hi mrfuelish,

Yes, even us Kiwis get snow. Been wheeling in the stuff up to the grill ( SPOA Sammie ) and yes we do wheel in groups.
These are MY experiences and I am just letting MIDZUKI know what works for me and other club members - I am a member of a Zuk only club, 40 odd members at last count ( and all Zuks ;D ).

I still believe that 5.14 is a good all round ratio ;) on a fairly standard rig.

Just some feed back - not the last word on gearing. I do not profess to be the last word on Zuk mods - just helping out the forum.

 How about you?

Thanks my rig isnt heavily modified 2" shackle reverse and 1" body. i wheel it alot and also drive daily. i was mainly worried about street drivability.

				MIDZUKI,

The 416 gears compensate for 31's OK but the 5.14 gears give you back your "standard" gearing in hi box again - eg: 3400 rpm at aprox 60 m/hr - 100km/hr.

Good luck and I hope it all works out ;)
