Title: Been looking for a 4x4 mainly to put my boat in backwoods lakes
Post by: 5282jt on December 22, 2005, 06:55:08 PM
I mainly want it as a work vehicle, just for driving around bidding jobs and picking up materials-that's why I want something that gets good mpg.
I also have seen some local lakes on topo maps that i'd like to try to put my boat in and I know i'd need a 4x4. I just found a 1993 4 door Sidekick for $2700.00 with 97,000 miles on it. Are there any pros and cons about this particular year? Any opinions and insight would be appreciated. I'm less than a newbie, i'm a maybe! :)

It's a 16' Cajun Bassboat/40 hp motor. I'll be dealing more with wet sand than with mud.

The important part of the question is how much does it and the trailer weigh?

It's about 900 pounds.

A Tracker should tow that fine.  That said I'd look for a 4 door as the added length will make it that much more stable.

Oh yeah, and if you have to invest in a hitch spend the little bit extra and get a Class III hitch (with the 2" square opening).  The little Class I hitches would pull that fine but if you get stuck the Class III hitch could actually be used for a pulling point.  That and there's exponentially more hitch accessories for the 2" hitches than the Class I hitches.
