So I'm trying to think of a relatively easy way to get some lower low-range gears in my XL7, something more like 2.5 or 2.7:1 instead of the factory 1.8:1. I know it is possible to do a doubler but that seems like alot of work compared to just bolting up a 2wd tranny and then running a divorced t-case (similar to a Samurai) off the back of it. I have one of the rare 5-speed manual XL7's and would be stoked if this were an option, but I don't see too many 2wd Zuks out there. Can anyone confirm if there ever was a 2wd/manual GV or XL7?

Looking at the parts manuals, it would appear that they were made, but, as far as I can tell, it was done by putting a "dummy" transfer case after the transmission, so it probably wouldn't help with your situation.

I am not sure about the earlier versions, but the 05+ with the 5 speed auto is an Aisin/Warner A750f transmission, which is used in many Toyota 4z4's. They use an adapter between transmission and transfer case, which should bolt be able to bolt in place making Toyota TC's usable. The question is do the Suzuki transmissions have a different output shaft, than the Toyota's?
I have been considering this because the Toyota TC's are 2.25 or 2.5's.

I own a 2003 GV 2 wheel drive, 5 speed manual. - so they exist.

So what does the back of the tranny look like? Does it have the dummy box mentioned or not?

This crossed my mind as well- I know there's at least one XL7 out there running dual Toyota cases behind the stock auto tranny. I purposely bought the standard because that is my preference, and it made regearing the diffs possible- standards are 4.3:1 and autos are 5.13:1, opposite of all the other Zuks for some reason. My question is, is it possible to bolt up a Toyota transfer case to the 5-speed MANUAL tranny? OR, is there ever going to be a way to just bolt in a Toyota tranny + transfer case combo, using a bellhousing adapter like the Game Changer? Or if we could just determine why the aftermarket crawler gears won't work in the V6/5spd combo and do something about it...seems like the 2nd gen Zuks are getting more popular, I'd really like to see some more low-range options for the V6/5spd

No personal experience, but it's my understanding that the splines on the transmission output/transfer input are where the difference lies, and there's apparently insufficient demand to make it worth the while to create the necessary gears - the second gen automatics supposedly use the same size splines as the first gens which is why the first gen gears fit them.

I emailed Trail Tough to get to the bottom of it and their response was that the internal castings of the transfer cases are different, and the gears will not work.
Time for some sort of Suzuki 2nd gen to Toyota adapter.

June 1 I will finally be getting off the road and back to my toys. I will get some pictures from my 2WD 5 speed GV. Hopefully that will help some of you
