Title: 88 Suzuki samurai dying when down shifting
Post by: treydare on February 02, 2019, 09:50:40 AM
Hey guys I have a 1988 Suzuki samurai, I recently just did a lot of work to it (new carb, distributer cap, bug, spark plugs and spark plug wires, new fuel filter). It will fire up and warms up perfect and there are no problems when I actually put it into gear and go but when I try to downshift or come to a stop and press the clutch in and the rpms drop it will die. It has the original fuel pump and the carb I put on it is identical to the original Hitachi carb. All vacuum hoses are hooked up correctly, it has been timed, so I am stumped. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

My 88 Sami was running nicely, but would suddenly die, and not restart.  After lots of other changes, I had the distributor rebuilt.  Seems to have solved my issue.  Maybe a different problem than yours...

Come to find out the refurbished Hitachi carb I ordered has a couple vacuum ports and some electrical missing as well. Anyone else have this problem with a refurbished carb or know if there are parts that need to be salvaged from the original core?
