Inspired by 4x4 Videos
« on: February 17, 2006, 09:42:30 AM »
Watching all these cool 4x4 videos of guys crossing swamps, etc. got to me. Along one edge of my property is a bog. You can feel the ground move when you walk and there are several springs and creeks. Well the other day I decided I would drive across it in the Tracker. I drove down a steep hill and out onto the bog. The ground felt soft and I was a little nervous but everything still seemed ok. I crawled over old fallen trees and over some stumps with no problem so I headed accross the first little creek. It was gooey but the Tracker spun it's was up the other little bank. Then I got to next creek. I eased the front wheels in and they sunk fast. Oops. I was able to rock it back and forth a little but it was obvious I was just sinking deeper. Out came the tree strap, HiLift and chain. A few minutes later I was out. Unable to cross that creek I turned around and headed back.  :-[

Since I crossed the first creek once already I ass-umed it would be a given. Nope. I guess I loosened it up enough with the first crossing. Front end sunk again in the ooey gooey. This time I felt the bumper hit.

Out came the recovery gear again. Since the front hook was buried I pulled it out backwards. Now I was between creeks. There is no trail down there and the trees can make it tight.  I had to look around but found another line I could take this time I was able to hit the creek at more of an angle. It worked and I was across and on my way back out.

My wife asked if I was stupid because I know there is quick sand down there. I simply answered YES.  ;D

Shredder,

That's funny!!! Nice rig..I like it alot...That's my next one...4 door. But after the soft top rots to nothing...What's your set up? Lift,wheels,tires,motor...There's a hill by the freeway that we climb on our racing ATV's...Some of my buddy's won't hit it....I had the tracer up it about 100 ft.
with 205's that are bald..But it's got a locker ;).When the rest of the parts get here.I'll try to climb it!!!!Need a spotter so they can work the new winch if needed :o.Because if it comes off backwards...I'll be looking for a four door that day..I'll take a few picks Sat. and post them.

ThanksTom K

I have a Calmini 3" suspension system, 3" Boondox body-lift, 15x8 RockCrawlers 2.5"BS, 31x10.50 Cooper Disco S/Ts. I have a Shrockwork winch bumper but haven't installed it yet so I still need to HiLift winch it when stuck. These things climb awesome don't they. Mine just doesn't like creeks. :-[

No locker yet. Don't think it would have helped though, all 4 were spinning in unison. Those little creeks are bottomless goo. I will get one though soon. Lockers are awesome. Wish I could afford an ARB but it will most likely end up being a LockRite.

That's what I got,Got it used for $100 ;DIt works great,It is alittle funny when shifting gears,I did notice it "unlocking" last night when turning around on the road.It clicked......but Heck I can live with that.If it where a spool it would be hard on axles...

Think you could find another Suzi wheeler? That with a little strap would safe you lots of time of getting stuck, getting out to shoot pics, trying to manuever to get out and not succeeding, stopping to get pics, then working to get it out, stopping to shoot pics, then getting it out, stopping for pics......phew, I'm tired just writing wanted I only wanted to say was 'pal up- go out with another'.

It would be nice. I wheel alot (3-4/week) so about 95% of the time I wheel alone. As a guide I do alot of scouting on forest roads, 2-tracks and logging roads. I put almost as many off-road miles on a year as I do on road. Thats why I need to get that dang winch bumper and winch on it. I'll have to do that one of these days instead of wheeling.  ;)

yeah I wheel mostly alone and at night which is not too much fun but it does make for interesting butt puckering especially when you do get back in the light and you see what  a stupid idea it really was and then you say " but she made it " and then you laugh and go try something else that is stupid

nice pics as well I always forget my digi cam I should get one of thos key chain ones and leave it in the truck

Boondox Motorsports is the company. A small fab shop in West Michigan. They also made a 2.5"F/3"R lift (longer springs) for my wifes Kick. Their website is http://www.boondoxmotorsports.com. They are still working on the site and it wont be complete 'till March. Should have alot of stuff for TracKicks, Kia and Liberty. They also sell and install lift kits for Chevy vans and do other custom work.
