SAFETY TIP! - Samurai will fit just about anywhere.
« on: March 17, 2006, 07:51:18 AM »
California BLM -

Staying on designated routes in remote public land areas of the California
Desert became an important lesson for an OHV recreationist and his
passenger who fell down a vertical mineshaft last weekend in eastern Imperial
County (luckily, a broken arm was the only injury). Traveling off-road in a
designated "limited use" area (where travel is restricted to identified safe
routes), the two men spent Sunday afternoon and night -- 20 hours total --down
the abandoned mineshaft before being rescued.

BLM arranged to have the vehicle extracted. An investigation is underway.

I have cruised that area, and I know some
of those shafts are steep and deep.

:o :o I wonder if he is going to buy a full-size truck now?  Good to see that they came out with little injuries.

That's pretty amazing.  I wonder how far they fell.
35 years of Samurai ownership, and I still have my very first one. :)

Glad they are OK. Man, that is a slightly unnerving sight seeing that zuk's rear coming out of that shaft.

Aside from the bent cab, it looked plenty driveable. Id say it did pretty good for a 25 ft fall.
Runnin' it stock with 225/75R15s and an unmodified 8valve TBI motor (I need a doug thoroley header and a cam) (more power) (1.6 liters of madness) (vroom + sewing machine sounds)
