Finally got to work on the Goblin
« on: March 30, 2006, 02:30:56 PM »
The weather finally broke and is warm and sunny in my neck of the woods. I took advantage of it and finally got to work on some of the Goblin's problems that have been building all winter. I swapped out the sticking hubs for a freshly rebuilt set, rewired my CB only to find out the transmit stage is cooked(oh well... gotta get a new one), I repaired my dome light(the wires had corroded so bad that they broke off the plug behind the left rear speaker cover) and I repaired the bent roll pin in my hilift jack, getting it back online.

I also pulled the passenger door interior panel and pounded out the dent at the outside door handle/lock mechanism. I had rubbed against a tree last fall that had pushed the door handle in. It still worked to open and shut the door and even still locked, but when you tried to roll the window down, the door would open and the window would stop. Apparently the bottom of the window was hitting the inside of the exterior door handle, pushing it down just like someone had pulled up on the handle to open the door... LOL!

I still have to do some rear brake work(needs new shoes and hardware) and address the severely wrinkled tailgate(apparently it didn't like carrying a 33" spare without any reinforcing, LOL!). I figure since I removed the rear seats, I'll just strap the spare in the rear floor and maybe mount my gerry can to the tailgate in the spare's spot... Maybe even mount my jack to the gate, too... I don't wanna spend too much time on it, though, because I really have no idea how long it's going to keep running until I have the Kickup project ready to go...

Anyone else doing some spring repair work getting ready for the summer?
Had a cool sig pic till I changed the text... sigh...

As a matter of fact.....

Our weather was GORGEOUS here today..

My tow rig (F-150) has sorely needed some help in the rear spring dept.. so I got a set of those Monroe Sensatrac Load Adjuster (coil over shock...)   and got them on..  MAN what a difference, feels like an F-250 now.. (well, not really, maybe an F-200?lol)  still, it doesn't squat any more.. I was going to do thd Add-a-leaf thing.. and probably still will some day.. but my shocks were shot anyway.. so I figured two birds with one stone, and they claim up to 1100 lbs more load capacity for these..

I tested it out taking the Tracker down to the car wash.. so I could blast some of the Haspin Sand/concrete out of the undercarriage so I can get around to insalling the Calmini X-fer case skid I have sitting here.. ($25.. yeah!)

The Tracker also needed a bath, so I could see out again..  ;)  I needed to go through all my trail stuff.. Hilift, come a long, straps, shackles, trail tools, etc.. and straighten them out from being put away muddy..

Also put a couple of torn off exhaust hangers back on.. the exhaust is holding up well.. the guy that bent it got it tucked up there GREAT and that little Turbo Pak muffler (just a half size cherry bomb.. steel...yeah) had taken a couple of deep dents on rocks, and was still fine, if it had been a normal thin steel muffler, it would have been ripped off, or at least holed.

I actually had more to do to the tow rig and trailer than the Tracker..

Lights rewired, hitch straightened out, odds and ends..

The more I did, the more I found that needed done..

ya know.. these 31's just aren't going to hold my attention...

This spring I want to:

4:1  X-fer gears
more major trimming
Yota front axle conversion
Bumpers
33's with as little additional lift as I can get away with
Possible, not probable, but possible conversion to the Calmini 3" Suspension

DARN IT!!!   I might have 31's and a BDS 2" lift for sale soon..  If I would have just gone bigger to begin with  (Famous last words..)

I would make a good millionaire...  it wouldn't last long, but I'd have some kick-ass toys to play with when I was broke.... ::)

Ugh, where to start:

My Ranger needs it's lift installed...after I clean and paint the components, the front end rebuilt, the rear shackles put on, the fenders cut, and bigger tires found and installed.

The GV needs it's lift put on and the speedo recalibrator dohickey relocated and rewired.

The '90 needs it's 3rds pulled and probably the head as well.  Then it needs to be sold.

The '96 needs the above 3rds put in, lots of minor stuff to fix/complete, and the new tires aquired and installed.

Among others...did I mention I'm going to school 3/4 time and work 40+ hours a week? :P

1.  Install a CB
2.  Get a Hi-Lift
3.  Find some time to wheel!
(We're actually going camping in a couple weeks so that takes care of #3 for a while).  ;D

'89 Sidekick w/ 4.5" of lift.

Just my .02 Cents,

I currently have a Toyota that has 33s.  And I love that truck, but I hate buying tires for it.  Granted, it's used at least 2 times a week.  At 150-180 a piece 630-750 total not including the mounting and balancing which will easily add 20 more per tire (Including all the service fees), it gets expensive.

This is one of the reasons why I Down sized (to the Tracker) to 31s.  Seems like you can get used 31s all day in the paper at a great price.  I did however picked up two 33s with less than a 1000 miles on them for 150 a week ago.

If I decide to go bigger than 31s, I will be dealing with same problem, but at least the Tracker has a shorter wheel base than my Yota!

Not trying, to discourge, just another expess that sometimes gets missed.
