15" wheel with spacers on GV?
« on: September 11, 2006, 12:32:03 PM »
I was wondering if I would be able to fit the black steel wheels that Lowerzolution has on his Tracker woth 1.5" wheel spacers on my GV or do I have to go with the wagon wheel style?

Never mind I just bought the wagon wheel style. I hope they won't be a pain in the ass to make them fit right. I'll post pics of my lift and wheels when I'm done.

I was able to fit the black steel wheels with a 1" spacer. Please post how the others fit when you get them.

Come on people, do a search.  We've discussed this to death...it won't work.

Even aftermarket 16" steel wheels won't fit.  Ask me how I know. ::)

Vitaras, XL7's, and GV's use different brake parts than Trackers.  You can verify this on NAPA or Advanced Auto's websites if you want.

A former poster here got 15x7's steelies with 3.5" of BS to fit his GV only after using 1" wheels spacers AND grinding on the calipers.

The wheels Josh used where diffierent. Ya they are steel wheels but the ones I bought are different that is why I asked. I also have 1.5" inch wheel spacers. Unless he had to grind the top of the calipers because of the smaller diameter, then my setup is lightly different. Ya I did a search and no one has tried this particular wheel and spacer set up. I hope to prove you wrong. And if you are right I will admit it......untill next week :-*

The problem is the angle that the short (but big for the vehicle's weight) rotors and calipers make from the wheel mounting surface.  This angle requires rims to have a STEEP angle to their spokes.  I've tried 16" and 15" steel wheels in varying backspacings and configurations and neither has fit.  Even the factory wheels have about a 1" "spacer" cast into their wheel mounting surface.

Honestly, there's a reason you've never seen a 99+ Vit/GV/XL7 with wheels other than stock unless they were running spacers.

With the wheel spacers it might work for you though.  I'm just not a big fan of those.

i dunno if it's worth it to buy new rims + the wheel spacers..  why not buy the spacers try them out with the stock wheels and see how you like that then go from there.
