hey guys i think i want to go to moab in april. its right on my birthday and that would be a blast. only thing is ive never been to moab or really wheeled my samurai in anything too dificult. Im working on it right now but by april it will have: 5.38's. a rear spool. 33-34x12.50's. i wont be running a winch. i doubt if ill have beadlocks. COULD but not likley unless you guys strongly advise it, a front locker. its on a spring over with wrangler conversion. have k and n and full 2 inch on the stock 1.3. rebuilt t case, ford shock towers,over the top steering, soon to have power steeruing. Is there anything i should really put my $$ towards to prepare for runs like poison spider and some of these runs at moab? i really need some imput here.

poison spider is a relatively easy trail
you gonna be just fine with the setup you have right now
80% of the trails in moab are fairly easy
and you have a winch, so you will have no problems.
been there 5 times in different levels of vehicles and always had lots of fun
last year we took dad's 96 tracker 2"+2" lift, 30" bfg AT's, locked in the rear and t-case gears. we had a blast going thru obsticals with a tire 3' in the air. we only got stuck once, and that was because I had to try to be a tough guy and take the hard line

You should be fine, friends of mine went there with all stock SPOA samurais, and did most everything but the extremely hard stuff.

As long as you stay off the hard trails you should be fine.  I would recomend a winch ahead ofa  front locker, even if it is Harbor Freight special.  It will help you get over more things then a front locker.

I think another good thing to think about is a thurough inspection of your brakes, make sure everything is in great condition, brake fluid lines, etc. Loosing your brakes on any trail sucks.

hey good to know, i could do a winch, but then i have a bumper, bigger alternator, the winch, a second bat....hmm if its going to be better than a front locker than mybe ill try and have a winch by then, or mybe even both ... appreciate the feedback

I still run my stock 410 alt.  But I did upgrade to a dual 6v battery setup to soak up the juice.  After winching a long hill it usually take about 30 minutes to charge.

Is the SJ410 a 6 volt system, or are you using two 6 volt batteries in the place of one 12 volt battery?

The 410 is a 12V system, I'm running two heavy duty 6V batteries in series to run as a 12V.  My brother and a buddy put it together for me while I was at work because they decided my previous battery wasn't up to snuff.  The 6V supposedly have more amps then the 12v batteries.  He is the mechanic in the family, I just shadetree stuff so I took his word for it.  But I have never run out of juice while winching. 

hmm, well if all i needed was a second bat, i might jsut go ahead with a winch.

my cousin did pritchett canyon without any problems, the hardest one on the list.   he just had lockers, 31s, 4:1 and spoa at the time.  hes a really good driver though, i couldn't do it.  so i think you'll be fine with anything there as long as your comfortable with the vehicle.
