'94 Tracker safari light bar question...
« on: February 05, 2006, 08:41:08 PM »
Hello ZukiWorld!!!

This is my first of possibly many posts so I hope someone may be able to give me a hand...

Anyway, I just acquired a 94 Tracker last September that was in need of some repair, and although I've gotten it road worthy, I wanted to add some fun toys to it.  I had my eye on the Westin Safari light bar (I'm going light and inexpensive here)  to not only help with the dark nights where I live but to give 'er a little more 'sexy' appearance.

I found the bar pretty cheap and had some difficulty locating the correct mounting kit, but took a plunge on a 97 application, which I now think may have been a mistake.

Does anyone have any ideas on this?  Or am I just not looking at my rig correctly?

Thanks in advance!

that is my safari bar on ebay that you were looking at Westin only offers the mounting kit for 97 and up because there are holes on the frame to bolt the bracket to. The older trackers (mine is a 90) have the same frame but no bolt holes so i just welded the brackets to the frame (this is why i didnt include the brackets with the bar on ebay)
hope this helps

Thanks for the advice gmj2fast...

I guess I'm pretty much SOL without a minor modification to the brackets... or the frame in that case.

I did however notice a threaded hole on the frame, a single hole.  Is it maybe possible instead of welding the bracket, to drill another hole in addition to the existing one for the 97 bracket? Or would I just be blowing smoke up my tailpipe?

Thanks!

I'm not familiar with the light bar that you are talking about. I fitted a set of OE Suzuki roof bars to my softop, they use all existing mountings. I put some pics up on my web site showing how it all fitted, maybe it might help you. The article is under mods/safari rack

Rhinoman, nice rig!  Thanks but the Westin bar I was refering to goes on the front.  Anyway, I think I'm gonna do some modifications to get it to work.  Welding or whatever.  It's too bad there arent brackets available for the 89-94 anymore.   :'(

Maybe I'll check my local boneyard...

So then if you have someone do a weld job, you CAN install the 97-up Westin bar? I really LIKE that design, and they're cheap on ebay...

I mounted my lights a bit further back. With them all the way forward there was too much glare off the bonnet/hood.
