possible cause's for vapor lock in a FI motor?
« on: October 17, 2006, 07:33:20 PM »
.............OK, my '96 1.6/16v/4sp-AT  had vapor lock on the way to the Zu in NC from Fla after about 2 hours of 70mph in 91 degree heat,  did it every 2 hours or so and i made it go away for another 2 hours or so by hosing everything down at a car wash, both under the hood and under the car, did not seemed related to fuel level, it went away when i got north of GA and the temp dropped below 80.......

Possible causes?

I heard from Scott that his X90 had the same thing and he thought it might be the charcol canister? (clogged i guess?) What effect would i have from removing the canister and plugging the 2 hoses together?  (no emission testing here ) I didn't get to see if it happened on the way home due to my transfer case splitting open about 80 miles from the Zu..

Other possible causes in a FI motor?

bad fuel cap?  (mine is stock '96 cap)
fuel pump going bad?  (also stock)
clogged filter? (its less then a year old)

other ideas, no mater how wild?
