need a roof rack for 97 4 dr kick
« on: October 17, 2006, 09:43:08 PM »
I have a green 97 4 dr kick, process now of getting the lift components, tires, etc.

It has rails running the length of the body on the roof, but no bars or anything for a roofrack.  I would like to put one up there.  Yakima seems to be a choice, but I don't know what exact towers I need from them.  They have a Loadwarrior basket that looks promising, but I don't know the part #s of the towers and crossbars I need, as well as the specific # loadwarrior.

I would consider other products as well, but they have to be able for me to mount a high lift jack on the side, shovel ont he other, and be expandable to mount lights, antenna, etc...

Suggestions please??

I bought Thule racks, but they're now discontinued.  I think Yakima racks was the only other choice.

I found a Yakima rack (38"inches wide X 48"inches long) on Craigslist for 140.
Then had to start from scratch for a roof rack.
After market rails (for a canopy) and then the bars and brackets.

I can build roof racks.  I have a tubing bender with dies for 1" square tube.  As for the rails running down the length of the roof post a picture and I might be able to figure out how to attach the rack to those rails.  What size are you looking for? Length?  Width?  Side height?

Here is a picture of one I made for my old XJ.  Sorry the picture is a little dark.  Shoot me a pm if you're interested.

P.S.  Depending on size there are a few build options that would make it more compact (cheaper) to ship.

Lets see if this works.  The following are pictures of the roof rack that I built for my old Cherokee.  I wanted something different so I had the ovals lazer cut and added the diamond plate for the sides.  How cool would it be to do the same type of thing with the Suzuki "S" logo on the side?  Anything can be done if you're willing.  Well let's see if the pictures will load.

Here is one that I made for my old boss's Grand Cherokee.  On the front of the lower hoop it has four light mount tabs that turned out quite well.  I personally didn't like the arrangements of the plates on the side but it was what he liked and wanted so that's what he got.  I do like the steel rod floor in this one better than the expanded metal in the XJ rack though.  Just another option on what can be done.

By the way I have a Pro-tools 105 bender with the 1" square tube die that makes these perfectly beautiful bends with no sidewall collapse or wrinkling.

I like the one made for the grand cherokee, especially the light tabs integral to the design... a suzuki symbol in the support plates would be cool, though looking at the pic I would think mounting the forward support plates a little farther forward to support the front hoop a little more.

I will get with you when I get my zuki back this week, with measurements and such.  I am thinking I will go on ebay and get some yakima q locks and cross bars, then I will have you make me the basket...
