driver's door removal
« on: October 27, 2006, 05:25:00 AM »
New to site & Zuki - got my daughter a 91, 2 door sidekick that I'm doing a liitle work on. So far, here in Ontario, thanks to good old road salt, a good set of drills & taps are your best equipment as ya break pretty much 25% of the bolts coming out LOL. It seems to be a very easy car to work on, not much to it. Just a street driver (for now).  Got a few things I'd like to do and will need a couple of things but for now I wanted to remove the door to do some minor bodywork before the winter hits in. It looks to me like the front fender has to come off. Am I missing something? Is there a way of removing the door without doing that? Do the hinge pins come out? Any advice is appreciated.

Dave

Hi.

Recently, I have to remove the doors of my '93 Sidekick and all I have to do was to remove the four bolts who links de hinges to the door (and, of course, the little pin of the bar who limits the overture angle).

It only take a wrench and a little pair of pliers.

The fender dont have to move.

 ???

Of course, on the Sidekick, the doors are REALLY heavy.  So you will probably need some help to re-attach them.
There's a old saying in Quebec who said: "Grosse corvette, p'tite quequette!".  It means "Big cars are for those who have to compensate for a very small wiener".  Therefore, I love my VERY SMALL Zuki!!!

Either way works, fender on, and do the bolts on the door, or fender off and do the bolts on the body to hinge..

The door isn't heavy though... strange comment..

all doors pretty much need two people to attach correctly.

Its not light either, its all relative I guess. I did find it rather awkward to hold the door up and get the bolts back in. On my original doors the pins were rivetted over at the end. I replaced the pins with the earlier type with a circlip. I had to remove the hinges to get the pins out anyway because the layer of paint on the pin stopped it coming out easily. Fender stayed in place, its all sealed up with seam sealer and painted over so I didn't want to take it off.

Thanks guys for the help. First time working on this vehicle so it's all new to me. I know we're miising something from the `radio stack' area, a bezel or something, that will be for a later post.

Great site.

I also took the fenders off...

to reattach the door, simply put it in closed postition, then the hinges lines up...  easy an one mans job..

for the adjustment, dont tighten the bolts too much, then you can adjust the door, and tighten the rest when you're finished

That's true, once the fender is off, you can put them on by yourself...  you can't if the fender is installed.. at least not without some crazy stands/supports...
