I would not use synthetic, just use the cheap stuff and change it more often,I tried it and did not like it or what it does to an older rig with a few miles on it, run 75-90 gl4 in the trans and 75-90 gl5 in the diffs and transfer case. Did not like lucas additive either. it does like prolong.

I used the Lucas synthetic last time I changed mine in the tracker with out any problems. I have it in the front and rear pumpkins and the transfer case since September. I didn't really notice anything good or bad, I went this route because I was told the synthetic doesn't get as thick in the cold climates. What problems did you have Mr fuelish?

There are a lot of zuks in the small town and surrounding area that I live in and I get alot of feedback on what works and what does not work besides doing my own testing, one of the guys in the heep club that I belong to tried it in his five speed trans with normal gear oil and the synthetic lucas, it gets real cold here and most of the time to get from one end of town to the other your rig does not have a chance to warm up (gear oil) and his trans would move his rig down the road in neutral and shift real hard, mine the transfer case was real noisy with royal purple, went back to regular gear oil and all is good, and yes they were new gears (all of them) and bearings on the cluster shaft, granted lower gears put alot more strain on things but has been the same with the regular oil and not gotten any louder so I will leave it alone, on an older engine you can burn synthetic oil in a short time, yes you can see it and it smells bad, I have had it happen to two of my rigs and a friend had it happen to his rig also, there ya go! my two cents.
