samurai winchy wipers

samurai winchy wipers

i just got an 88 sammy, and i was woundering if anyone else who owned a sammy was having the same thing happen as me.  Im pretty sure the motors are shot, the winchy wipers go the same speed now matter what setting your on. Or it will go fast in the beginning then just die out.  Anyone know whats going on? or what a fix is?

Possibly a grounding issue. Make sure you have good battery to engine to frame to body ground.

Ill have to check all the wiring out, i just got the sammy yesterday and toed it back to my house (had to toe it about 200 miles hahha)  So im going to go through it with a fine tooth comb and check everything out.  But are there any other things it could be other than a grounding issue?

Ya check grounds first, could be switch issue, but grounds would be first place to look.  Motors could be wearing out...  start with grounds, work from there....

I just had the same problem. Turned out to be the alternator. Blower motor was weak too (partly due to the load of leaves  clogging it). You can check my previous post on this. The shops kept saying it was good both on and off. I had no ground from the distributor but had a ground from the block to the firewall and a ground from the battery neg to the firewall. I added another ground from the battery neg to the firewall (not sure of the significance of either) and grounded the distributor housing to the firewall. Didn't fix the problem. I replaced the alternator and haven't had a problem since.

Oh, by the way. It was taking the battery down so low I couldn't start on a warm day. It's been 14 degrees in the am here for the last 5 days and she fires right up without effort.
