Rust
« on: December 05, 2006, 10:22:53 AM »
I just got an 88 samurai, and like every samurai that is around here.  There are patches of rust forming around the winshield, right by and under the weather stripping.
Is there anything i can do?  If i pull the seal out of the window, im pretty sure i will have to have a new one to put in.
Its not horrible rust, its just starting on the surface, but that leads to holes...
so i want to sand it out ASAP and prime it.

You really need to get the windshield out to fix this and sooner will be easier than later.

Problem is the windshield is very fragle and unless you hire a pro you will probably break it getting it out.

Once you get it out you have to remove all of the rusty metal, then treat with Ospho (acid)

Then you can start the rebuild process .... new metal, mig welder, and then bondo only as a smoothing over coat.

Americas Oil problem is simple. We just can't seem to check our oil.
The oil is in Texas and Alaska .... The DIP STICKS are in Washington!

its not to the point of swiss cheeze, its still at the surface rust stage.  The paint is starting to crack and there are rust lines.  My buddie works at a body shop and he can get me everything to paint the car for 400 bucks.  So im going to pull the winsheild out and tend to the rust.

Thanks
