part fitment
« on: January 09, 2007, 11:49:07 AM »
For an 87 tintop samurai, will the fender ties (upper and lower) fit all years? Autopartsland only has the post 88 and says it wont fit my 87. However samuraisalvage says that one part fits all??? anybody know for sure? anybody know where i can get the parts?
thanks in advance.
ps $35 from autopartsland, $160 from samuraisalvage.

Thats what they were called on autopartsland. I'd probably call them rad supports, grille support, grille surround  etc. Anyway, they bolt to both fenders across the front of the truck. The hood latch is bolted on the upper one and the grille is partially supported by them.

Hi cyborgben!

In answer to your question, I believe that the part that you are referring to is the same on all US and Canadian Suzuki Samurais from 1987 (possibly 1986, too) to 1995.  The only change to the bodywork occurred - to my knowledge - when the Samurai (SJ-413) replaced the SJ 410 in '85 or '86.

Buying an '88 part should be a safe bet.

Is Autopartsland a recycler like samurai salvage?  Ray tends to price his stuff a bit high.

The part from the AutoPartsland folks should do the job as long as you are satisfied with fit and finish.  Double-check on their return policy before purchasing if they are a mail order company.

Hope this helps!

autopartland is a supplier of new cheaply pressed aftermarket sheetmetal parts in CA. i figure a new part, even cheap, could be made to fit, look and last as well as a 20 year old used part that is prone to rust, collisions, and those damn phillips head fasteners that seem to be welded in place. also, no individuals seem to have the used part for sale.

Good choice!  Having taken apart a few Samurais in my time, I know what you mean about those #$*$ing phillips head screws.

Although I have never bought aftermarket sheetmetal for my Samurai, I HAVE done so for my Tracker and it worked out nicely.

Do you have a URL for Autopartland??

Maybe they sell 410 grilles...  Those grilles are very popular replacements for the cheap plastic Samurai grille...

...and no, they don't have a 410 grille but they DO have a solid Suzuki grille!
