gearing
« on: January 01, 2005, 03:29:53 AM »
Hello, This is my first posting. I have a 98 X-90 as my DD.I was wondering what gearing to run. Ir has 29-10.50 -15 interco sts. I am thinking of going up to 31-11.50-15 with a 2" body lift, I already have the ome 1.5 lift with spring spacers. The X has an auto and 4.62 gears. Most of my driving is on highway with some off road. What gear would be best. 5.12, 5.38,5.83
Thanks LIL X  ;D

I going to 5.12's in my auto (with 31's) ... after properly tuining the tired 8v, I run 3800 up a long hill and get to about 65mph max speed (kicking down 70).

I'm thinking that the 5.12's may run a higher RPM, but have some more pull at 65 (BTW, I'm happy with that top speed).
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy it.

i have an 8V manual running 5.12s with 31x10.5x15. copes good, only bogging down off the line with low revs (probably cos of the factory carb).

top speed for me is about 100km/h, maybe 103ish with tail wind and 110 going down hill... and my speedo is out 10kms, so gotta add 10 kms to whatever its showing.

With 5.12's I believe you would be fine with the 31's. The 5.8 would probably be to low for 31's and daily driving. Where are you getting  5.3?

I guess I'm going to but in here.  Is there any whole diff center sections that will bolt into a samurai with lower gears in them, I believe my stock sami has 3.73's correct me if I'm wrong.  I would like to some day put lower gears in the diffs, but do it easily.  I'm going to put in a lower t-case first though.
