my tach won't go over 3000 RPM?!
« on: February 26, 2007, 07:50:20 PM »
tach just stops at 3000 - even if i push the engine higher. so, does this sound like a dead tach or is there something else to look for? anyway to bench-test a tach?

Has the switch in back been moved away from the 4cyl. mode?

WOW! thanks for the quick responses!

in my haste to post my first message.... i left out a few important details (newbie mistake - sorry). the tach is a stock tach from a 87 samurai. i pulled the instrument cluster and didn't see anyting that seemed out of place. when i reinstalled the gauges, the tach did manage to make it over 3000 rpm, but it seemed pretty jumpy. probably just need a new tach....

thanks

if its jumpy it might just be a loose connection

Sounds like the blinker fluid level is low in the tach gyro.

Sounds like the blinker fluid level is low in the tach gyro.

I don't know, usually a piston return spring will do that too.
