1.3L to 1.6 tranny adapter plate
« on: December 09, 2004, 11:33:51 AM »
you read correct! and your prolly asking why would you wanna adapt a 1.3L motor to a sidekick tranny?

well In my case I bought a 90 kick with a knocking bottom end.  I have no money to fix the block so I'll just throw in a good cond. 1.3 block which I have many of lying around,  that and throw the 1.6 head with the EFI on it too

anyways back to the question:  has anyone ever done this? in theory I can only assume the same plate to adapt the 1.6 to 1.3 tranny can be used with the exception of the tapered hole being on the other side of the plate

I just need to know if there'll be any interference with the flywheel, which flywheel to use, and starter to use etc. etc.

if noone has any input well I'm gonna attempt it anywho. and all my questions will be answered.

oh and  didn't the first year kicks come with 1.3L motors?  from what I heard they did but it was brief.

thanks in advance

mike

thanks for the info, kerry, but I've already cut the plate, this weekend I'll find out if it fits, just need to know if my theory was correct :)

Ther early kicks did nave a 1.3  you can sometimes find one of the early bellhousings for sale, lately about $125.  With this bellhousing everything bolts right up.  I think I saw one |removethispart|@ Izooks classifieds recently.

cool, but prolly cheaper to go with kerry's adapter plate, and cheapest if you build one yourself!

outta curiousity tho, what flywheel would be used with the 1.3 bellhousing? I'm hoping it's the kick one cuz mines an automatic ( not avail in samurai)

I have no idea about the flywheel, but I'm interested in how your adapter plate works.  I'd like to put an auto kick and tcase w/ an OTT adapter to my sammy case behind my 1.3.
It sounds kinda crazy but I have a strong motor and don't want to swap it until I blow it up.

Please take pics of your project to share!

Just get the Lucky13 and adapt away.. Or better yet scrap the OTT Idea and just put a Toy trans behind it with the RingR

let's not forget why I'm doing this ;  lack of money!, as much as I'd love to purchase your adapter kits and toyota trannies it's just not in my budget  :(

so instead I'll just build with what I have, I have more time than money ;D

currently this setup is going into a SWB samurai, lobb the kick t-case and throw a sammi case behind it. helluva lot cheaper than the OTT and same results. only drawback is lengthening the wheel base (if you can consider that a drawback!) pics will be taken along the install. but will have to wait til next weekend, were having a freak snowstorm up here and driving to the shop is pretty treacherous
