After suspension lift qns

Hi Everyone,

I got a 2004 GV and recently did a suspension lift to it, details as follow:

1) Koni adjustable shocks all round with stock coil spring.

2)Front coil spacer 2.5 inch and rear 3.7inch spacer!!!

3) 235/70/16 ATS yokohama tyres (and they do rub on full lock!)

The pic attached is the after lifted.

Question is, initialy when we put on the all round 2.5 inch spacers, the rig looks funny as the
front seem to lift more then 3 inch"!!! and after that i added additonal 1.2 inch to 3.7 inch for the rear.

What seem to be problem initially?

it is all to do with suspension geometry, apparently 1" spacer in the front give 2" lift.  This is because the suspension arm pivots at a point on the chassis and I guess the spring is half way along the arm.  It also means that if you lift the front the wheel alignment changes because the arm moves in an arc, but you've probably already noticed that.  The joys of independent suspension.

Because the rear has a solid axle 1" spacer = 1" inch lift.

BTW, this just educated guessing so please correct me if I'm wrong.

Did not occur to me that the effect of the pivoting suspension arms will cause such a big difference on the lift.

From the pic i attached, do you feel that i should replace it with a 1.85 inch spacers for the front? Or do you guys feel its fine just like that.

I cant see pict :( but on the front 1inch spacers do give 2inch lift.

I would suggest there are two things to consider in regards to changing the front spacers.

1. Do you like the way it sits?  The pic does look like it is sitting a little higher at the front but it will be easier for you to judge but it will depend on your personal preference.

2. What is the lift doing to your CV joints?  The more lift the greater the CV angle (critical at full droop/extension), the more work it has to do and the more likely it is to fail.  Putting in spaces will definately increase the standard working angle of the CV's but as I said it is critical at full droop.  This will be controled by you struts, so if you have not changed the struts then the full droop should be the same as before (I think) but if you are using longer struts then you might want to look into it some more.  Do a search on this topice coz this has been talked about quite a bit before.

Thanks for your replies.

I aware of the CV joints problem with suspension lifted rig. Did enquire with my mech on the issue and is something which we have to live with :).
