Just thought I would share in this months purchases.
Original Suzuki purchased a while ago

The New:
Two Baby zuki's (two his and hers 2007 suzuki quadsport 400's)

And the newest addition added today.
A 1996 Geo tracker 16 valve 5 spd

So now for the question. What is the procedure for turning off the check engine light on one of these? Thanks.

a 96 will be obd2 so disconnecting the battery will not work. you will need a scan tool to clear the code.

Hey, you found a 96 huh?  Nice rides those 96 Trackers.  :D

I would hit a parts store and use their ODBII scanner to see what the problem is.  Unplugging the battery will clear it temporarily, but you need to leave it disconnected for 30 minutes or so.

it is for the 96 if it was the sami I would just hit the switch under the dash. :)

yeah talked to the guy I bought it from today it's apparently the egr system giving the error.

Drone how much problem does little red give you with the egr system?

Actually, it doesn't.  When it is warm out but the engine is still cold it acts like it is going to stall when I stop, but never really does.  Once the engine warms up it works properly.

I tracked down at least one bad relay valve and replaced it, but it is still not working properly.  I would pull the EGR valve and try to clean the pipe (There is a post on it somewhere) or replace it but someone beat me to it and cross threaded one of the bolts.  I really don't feel like breaking it off and having to pull the engine to replace it, so I leave it alone.

I think I have a bad sensor giving the system a false reading, as when I bypass the vacuum line mess and plug the EGR valve straight into the vacuum line coming off the engine it works fine.  The relay valves just aren't opening properly.  If I had the electrical schematics I could probably figure out exactly what is wrong.

Work is having me home for a few weeks instead of traveling so I might be able to track down the issue.
