Replacing a sidekick tcase with a sammy tcase
« on: May 16, 2007, 09:18:02 AM »
What is required to replace the sidekick tcase with a sammy tcase.

I have read that I would need a 2wd sidekick transmission. Will this work with a 16v motor?

Is there any adapter required to mate the sammy tcase to the 2wd sidekick tranny?

Will the output locations for the driveline be in the same position as stock?

Are different driveshafts required?

Thanks in advance.

Hi , whyt  don't you keep the sidekick transmision-transfer case and just add the sami's t-case.
You would have to use a really short driveshaft to mate the to transfer cases , and you will have a killer driveshaft angle to the rear diff ( maybe a CV to correct that?)
BUT , you could mess with lot's of gears.
sidekick t-case 1:1 or 1.82:1 , sami t-case .... ??? 1.26:1 ? 2.16:1?

someone please give the correct numbers   ;D
Custom 5" suspension lift, custom 2"body lift, custom transmision lift, custom intake porting and custom exhaust.

 265/70 - 15 tires on 8 rims. Custom Man

I have ruled out the dual cases as, I don't NEED that many gears, don't want the short shaft/bad angle scenario, and because I am planning on using the Trail Tough kit which would work best with the correct length shaft.

The stock sammy case provides high range reduction of 1.409:1 and the tcase gears offered for it just make the numbers better.

I am thinking of using the Low Range offroad 4.9:1 kit with 3.90 or 4.10 gears. That should be perfect for 33's and provides 70:1 crawl ratio.

Now I just need help understanding how I can make the sammy case work.

I understand that the reason for the 2wd case is because you don't have to make a plate to cover the exposed innards of the case like you woudl on a 4wd case.

Does the 2wd case have the same ratios as the 4wd?

Is the 2wd case as strong as the 4wd?

Has anyone done this that could provide info and pictures?

The guts of the transmissions should all be the same you would have to make a transfercase mount and posibly a transmission mount. and then mess with all of 3 drive shafts. I have been toosing around the same idea in my head. but would think all the gear selections would be well worth the swap. Cause when you change the transfer ratios you change high and low unlike the trakick transfer.
