Power steer....
« on: May 25, 2007, 11:42:53 AM »
heya guys, ive just got hold of an JLX vitara for spares, engine runs fine so thats going into my sami build... (which is all starting to come together, pics to follow)

the vitara has powersteering... will i be able to fit this power steering into my Sami...? shes a 1987 sj413 LWB utility to be precise...

would be damn awsome if it does fit as i have a set of 35s waiting to go on, and i can see them being heavy to turn.... :-(

any comments are appreciated as usual...

Cheers in advance, Andy

You can but you need to fab a bracket to mount the steering box to the chassis. The steering column needs to be shortened by drilling out the pins and collapsing it a bit. The brackets for the pump differ between the 8V and the 16V, I believe that the 1.3 and 1.6 8V brackets are the same. The double pulley on the 1.3 is 4 hole the Vit is 5 hole but it can be redrilled.
I've not done this yet but I intend to fit it to my pick up so lots of pics please.
