5.12's, 3 speed auto..... 33's
« on: June 18, 2007, 01:05:16 PM »
So I have a 94 tracker 3 speed auto that I recently tossed 5.12's into upgrading it from 4.62's.  I currently run 31x10.5's but was thinking of going to 33x9.5's

anyone run 33's with auto? how is it....  I assume with the 5.12's will be fine.

I run a similar setup and all I can say is don't plan on passing any VW's onroad and unless you do T-case gears offroad will suffer also

hmmm I am not sure about that with the 5.12's and 31x10.5's I am running 75MPH easy... and I have gear left to run.  I would think a 33x9.5 will not be much more LBs on the tires, and with the 5.12's I should have enough gear for highway driving.

Just seems this way to me know that I have 5.12's with my 31x10.5s

Its about  6% difference in rolling diameter so you will lose 6% of your power/torque at the rear wheels. I forget if yours is a 16V or not. Biker's truck i would assume is an 8V as its a 91 (according to his sig). The 16V has a lot more power to spare.

I'd like to know the results if you go that way as well, considering it myself as I'm running the 31x10.5 with an 8V.

I found this little tool. It might help you on your gearing.

I ran 33x12.5 on a stock 8v with stock gears.  Instead of 5th I used 4th on the highway, just like going from 512 to 589 in the axles

I wouldn't but that's just me.  Drove around on 31's and 4.30's too long.  Like the power I got back with the 5.12's.

16v, 3 speed, and 5.12's on 31's.

I ran 33 x 9.5s with 5.125's (stock gearing) in a 4 spd auto lwb 16v and it was drivable but not great and I could get up to speed on freeways etc. but I pretty much gave away the O/D part so top was 1:1 in 3rd just like a 3 spd auto. Some engine mods helped performance in the end but gearing is really the answer here. Now if Calmini gets those 5.83's back on the market soon (supposedly back in production now) you will have a great solution.

dead on gear change to 5.62 would put u at stock ratio in theory, but bigger tires
sap power just because
