Has anyone ever heard or experienced this before?

Hey Guys, I am new to the site. I just got a '95 Tracker LSI, soft top, 4x4, pretty clean. It has a problem that I have asked around about but no one seems to have a definite answer.

It starts right up everytime and idles kind of low, but if you hit the gas it bogs and almost wants to shut off. If you barely give it gas it will rev clean. So even when I tried to drive it to the shop, it drove a mile and shut off.

Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel pump, fuel filter, PCV valve, EGR, throttle body, have all been changed.

I just got it, it has 147,000 mile on it and I have heard too many great stories about this little truck to give up on it so quickly. I really don't want to get rid of it, but with this problem, no engine lite on, there's no way to know what it is.

Any veterans out there have any ideas? Please let me know. My guess is timing.

You may be on the right track with the timing, when I got my 95, the timing was set to the 8 valve spec, which is a bit different than the 16 valve. Also check for an air intake obstruction, or a loose or cracked intake hose. Could also have a fuel pump or filter issue. Don't give up on it, they ARE great little vehicles, and quite capable. How did it respond with the timing set to the 8v spec.? I wish it was something as simple as a hose or even the mass air hose. I had a problem like this before with a BMW and it was that. I guess I wouldn't be that lucky. But I'll take the advice and not give up. I was planniing to change the pump and timing belt anyway.

Hmmm...wondering if the crank key has sheared and shifted the timing.

Do a code check and see if it throws a 12. you could unplug your temp sensor and run in open loop and see how it runs.

Check the key on your crank. My 98 ran fine then would act crazy, then run fine again, having your same problem. The first time it was plug wires arcing to the valva cover and making it miss. We replaced them (WITH CHEAP ONES) and it still did it ) so try checking that first. Once that problem was fixed and it got on up in miles the problem came back and it ended up being the keyway on the crank had worn out enough that it was getting out of time and running like hell.
