I'm driving along on the freeway yesterday and I hear "BUZZZZZZZZ" come out of my radio... which I turn off... then 'all hell breaks loose'...

I the truck hesitates in short bursts - feels like a cylinder is misfiring. Turn signal indicators aren't working, my radio is now dead, and my dash & headlights are dimmer. Coming off the freeway, my truck stalls immediately after I push in the clutch. Bump start - push in clutch, engine promptly dies again. If I keep the throttle pressed in a little, the engine will rev and run just fine. When I got home and tried to restart, I heard the 'click' of the starter sylinoid (SP?) doing it's thing, but there's NO engine turn at all. Acts like a very low battery or a short?
History:
I purchased this a month ago. In the paperwork, it shows two different times it's been in the dealership for stalling. One time they changed the alternator (about a year and a half ago), and one time they adjusted the clutch cable (about 6 months ago). It recently had both CO2 censors replaced to pass smog (about 6 weeks ago).
I noticed the vehicle was running very rough at stop lights over the last couple weeks (dropping in RPM and running poorly) - I went to check the idler control valve, but when I popped the hood I couldn't tell which part was the idler control valve. I also pulled a bad speaker out of the back last week (been looking for replacement), and noticed the bare speaker wire was making contact with the body of the truck - possible short? (rough idling happened prior to the speaker removal). I moved the wire away from body, but truck still 'clicks' without turning over engine.
Not sure if there's a short somewhere, a bad idler control valve, something else, or any combination. I'm really at a loss - not sure how to isolate the problems. I have another vehicle I can borrow a battery / jump start from.
Please help!

Oh - it's a '97 Kick 4 door
