what is the drive cycle to reset system on 1998 Tracker with auto trans?  I've been told 40, 60, 100 and 200 miles from different people.  What is right?

This is what happened:  I replaced the TPS but the check engine light was still on.   Disconnected the battery, but the light would come back on after a couple of miles.  My mechanic said that sometimes it will stay in the memory.  He hooked up the OBD reader and cleared my memory,  but said to drive it 40 miles for the computer to reset and balance out.  I drove it about 45 miles and took it for a state inspection (Texas).  They said that some of the monitors were not ready and to drive it 200 miles and bring it back.  So Is 200 miles long enough to reset the monitors or what.

I'm not sure of this, but a friend of mine owns a GMC medium duty truck dealership, so this is what he told me. On the newer computers, for enough data to be collected for emissions, it was speed and miles related. Above 45 miles per hour over x amount of miles. So you just can't putt around town with very little warm-up and quick start stops, it will not register. They want make sure that all systems are warmed up and functioning correctly. That, and they didn't want people to do the old disconnect the computer from battery, drain down the emission error code, and re-run it through emissions to get it to pass without problems.

I think most OBDII system will also only hold for 30 key on cycles, could be wrong. They should be able to clear the codes with a scan tool and it will turn off the light, couldn't say about how much driving memory is needed to pass the tests though. Good Luck
