Best platform to start with?

OK I think I'm sold on a 2 door kick or tracker now I need to know some more stuff.  As for trans auto or manual? I'll be wanting good ground clearance so what size tire ( I don't want to carve the body to bad but trimming is ok) anything special to look for on a used kick? I'm wanting to build a trail/exploring rig for fun in the mountians with my wife and dog any setup advice would be great P.S budget is in the $4000 range. can this be done?

If it's the older 3-speed auto, you can throw in some 5.12's and run 33's (I think). Get the Calmini 3+3" lift and a rear locker and you'll be set. Really shouldn't need too much trimming with the 6" combo, but 33's will still probably still rub a bit on articulation.

the 3+3 with 5.12 gears and 31" tires
almost no rub and stock gearing, would
be a great low $$ rig
