Sputtering Sidekick
« on: October 27, 2007, 04:21:54 PM »
My 97 Sidekick seems to be getting sick. It sputters under acceleration sometimes, mostly just regular acceleration, not hard acceleration. I changed my spark plugs less than 3 months ago and I just changed my fuel filter today, thinking that it was clogged and that was the problem. However, that hasn't fixed anything. Could it be that I have a layer of crap floating around in my fuel tank? What other solutions are there to this problem?

25 views and no suggestions? Quit avoiding me already!

My brother in law said it could be the distributor cap and rotor. What do you think of that?

That was my first guess without seeing the reply. Also check the wires, primarily the coil wire. Vacuum leak?

Dido on the wires.  Definate culprit.  It's probably a good idea to change the wires everytime you change the spark plugs.  Cap and rotor too.  You know, those are part of "routine maintenance".

Yeap, it's a 1997 so it's OBD2. I am planning to hook up a scan tool to see what's up, but my guess is that has more to do with emissions rather than important functions such as fuel delivery which I'm thinking is the problem. I will do some more work on it later this week and figure it out hopefully.
