16" Wheels on a Stock '90 Tracker?
« on: November 02, 2007, 05:28:23 PM »
I have been reading through the archives but can’t find the answer to my question….  It is wheel / tire related and I know these type questions get a lot of air time….  Sorry.

I have a bone stock ’90 Tracker 5-speed manual transmission.  One of the wheels is damaged and it can’t be balanced.  It also needs new tires.   I was looking for a stock rim and new tires when a acquaintance mentioned that he has a set of 16â€? wheels and tires off of his new Wrangler Jeep he needs to sell….

So to my question - will the stock Tracker drive OK with the 16â€? wheel set-up?  I don’t do any off-roading so I am looking for an inexpensive set up that will be good on the road.

Thanks.

A list of bolt patterns for various vehicles.  Jeep is a 5 on 4.5" bolt pattern where the Zuki's use a 5 on 5.5"  You can use old Ford rims though.  :)

whats heavier, a 15x8" rim w/ 31x 11.50 tire, or the same stuff but with a 17" rim

The 15x8 as it has a lot more rubber.  However the sidewalls on the 17" setup will probably be weaker.  Also they won't air down as well.

a 17" rim is only worthy when you're above 35" (personally I wouldn;t do it until I was 38.5 or more).

if this a street princess then well, whatever.

Be careful, some of the hub holes can be too small for a Tracker hub to fit through. Not a huge problem with steel as it can be ground away. But aluminum can be costly to have bored out.
